New graduates will be honoured at Conestoga’s fall convocation ceremonies from October 20 to 25. Held at Bingemans Conference Centre in Kitchener, the event is a culmination of hard work, passion and commitment in celebration of academic achievements.
As part of the week’s ceremonies, the Conestoga community will also recognize those who have been chosen to receive the college’s awards for excellence.
The Mastercraft award will be presented to Esteban José Rojas Peñaranda of the Automated Manufacturing program. The award recognizes student achievement in program-related technical skills as demonstrated at the college’s Tech Showcase.
For his winning project, Esteban created a comprehensive company plan for a versatile robot gripper that can be easily reprogrammed or customized depending on the changing needs of an automated manufacturing line to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Mengting Xia of the Management in Community Services program will be presented with the President’s Award of Excellence in Student Leadership. This award recognizes a student who has made outstanding contributions by positively impacting their program, the college and their community while demonstrating student support and leadership.
Mengting is the co-founder and president of the Community Services for ALL club, participated in the Peer Mentor Program supporting new students in their transition to college life, volunteered with the International Women's Day Committee, and has taken part in the college's clean-up volunteer initiatives.
Governor General Academic Medal recipients are Madison McConnell of the Bachelor of Environmental Public Health program and Alana Fediurek of the Social Service Worker program.
Madison is honoured with a silver medal as the graduating student with the highest academic average for all courses in an undergraduate bachelor’s degree program, while Alana receives a bronze medal as the graduating student with the highest academic average for all courses in a diploma program.
The Aubrey Hagar Distinguished Teaching Award will be presented to Estatira Shirkhodaee from the School of Business.
