Conestoga's Canadian Institute for Safety, Wellness & Performance (CISWP) has been awarded funding for applied research equipment through the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) - Applied Research Tools and Instruments (ARTI) grant program.
The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) awarded funding to Conestoga's Canadian Institute for Safety, Wellness & Performance (CISWP) for applied research equipment.
The funding will support new applied research equipment for CISWP that will enable the institute to expand its capacity to support diverse organizations seeking innovative, evidence-informed solutions to support workers.
“The new equipment will help to enhance CISWP research capacity and will support skilled trades businesses by accessing the institute’s unique expertise and state-of-the-art technology and equipment not available elsewhere in Canada,” said Dr. Amin Yazdani, CISWP executive director.
This funding will enhance CISWP capabilities to conduct research with actual workers as research study participants, within real work environments and during real work tasks.
“This approach is increasingly important as workplace injuries such as musculoskeletal disorders, illnesses, and fatalities are multi-factorial,” said Dr. Marcus Yung, director of development and operations.
According to Yazdani, the outcomes of CISWP’s work in collaboration with its extensive network of partners will have direct economic and societal impacts for Ontario and Canada, train the next generation of skilled trades workers, and help industries (particularly small and medium-sized enterprises) build capacity and assist in promoting business innovation.
CISWP’s expanded research program will support the development of decision-making tools and resources for organizations to improve the adoption of new technologies and innovations and to foster business growth and workforce sustainability within Canada’s skilled trades sector.
The Canadian Institute for Safety, Wellness & Performance works to improve the safety, wellness and performance of the Canadian labour force by generating knowledge, transferring research to practice, and strengthening workforce development - all in collaboration with stakeholders.
