Conestoga is now accepting applications for tuition-free pre-apprenticeship programs. Funded by the Ontario government, the programs are part of a provincial initiative to support growth in high-demand jobs by introducing more young people to careers in the skilled trades. The programs will give participants experience with a skilled trades career and a head-start on achieving apprenticeship certification.
The Pre-Apprenticeship Truck and Coach/Heavy Duty Equipment Technician will be offered in March at Conestoga's Guelph campus. It runs full-time for 23 weeks and features an additional eight-week practical work placement experience.
The Waterloo campus will start the Pre-Apprenticeship Welder/Metal Fabricator program in May. It runs full-time for 25 weeks and also features an eight-week work placement.
Enrolment for each program is limited to 24 spaces and interested candidates are required to attend an information session where details about both programs will be provided. Program faculty will be available to answer questions and provide a tour of the shop. Registration is not required for the sessions:
- January 18: 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Guelph campus
- January 25: 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Waterloo campus
- February 2: 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Guelph campus
- February 7: 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Waterloo campus
