Stacey discovered Conestoga’s Career Centre services through our unique partnership with Tech Jobs Connex, hosted by Communitech. The Tech Jobs Connex initiative is an Employment Ontario project funded by the government of Ontario specifically to assist recently laid-off BlackBerry (formerly Research In Motion) workers. This partnership facilitates access to Conestoga Career Centre’s programs, assisting displaced BlackBerry talent with job searching, career exploration and education or re-training options.
Stacey worked with a Career and Work Coach to create an effective resume and polish her interview skills, all of which helped her to land her new role as Account Manager & Marketing Strategist at MappedIn.
In hiring Stacey, MappedIn also participated in Employment Ontario’s Training Placement Incentive program to help Stacey to acquire new skills required for this opportunity, while helping MappedIn to offset its training costs. This created a true win-win situation for all!
Here’s what Stacey had to say about her experience:
“Conestoga College Career Centre is a phenomenal resource available within the Kitchener-Waterloo community. Having been in a stable career with BlackBerry for so long, it felt overwhelming trying to figure out the job market today. The Conestoga College Career Centre, and specifically my Employer Liaison, Kirsten, really helped me uncover what I wanted in an employer and empowered me to not to settle, and to find a company that was a true fit with my goals. I recommend their services to anyone that finds themselves unemployed or looking for a career change, no matter the position or industry.”
