Conestoga recently named their male and female athletes of the year at their annual athletic banquet.
The honor of Athlete of the Year is bestowed on an individual who exemplifies Conestoga Athletics. Their skills are unquestionable, their dedication, and leadership to their team is immeasurable. They must represent athletics in the classroom and be students in good standing.
Our Female Athlete of the Year is Laura Matheson, a member of the fastball team and a first year Office Administration student. Laura was one of Conestoga's top pitchers and also played centre field. On the mound Laura pitched 39 innings, had 36 strikeouts and an ERA of 4.13. At the plate she had 14 hits, 9 runs, 9 RBI's with a .333 batting average. She was the Women's Fastball team Most Valuable Player and the College and the coaching staff look forward to seeing her return next year to help push the Condors into the Championships.
The Male Athlete of the Year is Richard Parsons, a member of the Men's Outdoor and Indoor Soccer teams. He has been a team leader on and off the field for 4 years. He has been a League All-star, won the Coaches award for Indoor Soccer and has been a team Captain. A midfielder with speed and physical toughness he controlled the play and shutdown opponents. He could throw the ball a miraculous distance and contributed to setting up several goals this season as well as netting 1 himself. He helped lead the team to a 4th place finish in the West Division and into the playoffs. He has a lot of heart and determination and could lift the team with his words and actions. He is graduating from Conestoga with 2 Diplomas, one in Law and Security and one in Business Administration.
