Annual College Golf Classic Set for August 20

It's a win-win situation. The annual Conestoga College Golf Classic highlights and celebrates the achievements of outstanding local leaders. At the same time, it raises funds for scholarships and equipment to advance educational excellence for Conestoga students and for the community the College serves.

The seventh annual Golf Classic is set for Tuesday, August 20 at the Heron Point Golf and Country Club in Ancaster. More than 120 business, industrial and community leaders will take part.

This year's event honours the CEOs of Waterloo-based Research In Motion Limited: Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis. In addition to building RIM into a recognized world leader in wireless communications technology, the twosome have made major contributions to the community, such as establishment of the Perimeter Institute for research in theoretical physics.

Proceeds from the 2002 Golf Classic will go towards acquiring resources to expand advanced education at Conestoga in the field of information technology, particularly in the area of wireless communications.

Since its inception, the Conestoga College Golf Classic has raised nearly a quarter of a million dollars for use by the College in establishment of scholarships and acquisition of educational resources.
