Conestoga expands electric vehicle charging network across three campuses

Conestoga continues to expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging network with the installation of 15 new charging stations across three college sites, supporting the transition to more sustainable transportation.

The new installations, completed over the past several months by the college’s Facilities and Capital Development teams, provide charging capacity for an additional 29 electric vehicles. Fourteen of the new stations feature dual charging ports, allowing two vehicles to charge simultaneously.

The expansion was supported in part by funding secured through the provincial ChargeON program, which contributed to the installation of 24 of the new charging ports.

The program supports the development of publicly accessible EV charging infrastructure across Ontario, helping make electric vehicle ownership more accessible and convenient.

“Expanding our EV charging network is an important part of Conestoga’s commitment to environmental sustainability,” said Samantha Tremmel Lamb, environmental sustainability and energy performance manager. “By increasing access to charging infrastructure across our campuses, we’re supporting students and employees who have access to lower-emission transportation options while contributing to the broader transition to a low-carbon future.”

The latest installations build on the college’s ongoing efforts to increase access to EV charging infrastructure across its campuses.

Conestoga has established a goal of equipping 1.5 per cent of its parking spaces with EV chargers by 2030. The college continues to take a phased approach to expanding its network, considering factors such as campus demand, accessibility and available electrical capacity.

Increasing access to EV charging stations also helps address barriers to electric vehicle adoption, including limited access to residential charging infrastructure and concerns about charging availability.

Students and employees can use the ChargePoint and Flo mobile apps to access charging stations within Conestoga’s network.

The expansion is part of Conestoga’s broader commitment to environmental sustainability, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions across college operations and supporting the transition to a low-carbon future.
