New graduates will be honoured at Conestoga’s spring convocation ceremonies from June 22-26 at Bingemans Conference Centre in Kitchener.
The ceremonies celebrate the hard work, determination and achievements of Conestoga’s newest graduates as they join a network of more than 250,000 alumni living and working across the region and around the world.
“Conestoga graduates leave with the in-demand skills, hands-on experience and confidence to succeed in today’s evolving labour market,” said Conestoga Interim President Norma McDonald Ewing. “Through applied learning and strong partnerships with employers and community partners, they are well prepared to strengthen the communities they serve and adapt to the opportunities and challenges ahead. We are proud to welcome them to Conestoga’s growing alumni network and look forward to the important role they will play in building a resilient and prosperous future.”
As part of the week’s ceremonies, Conestoga will recognize students selected to receive the college’s awards for excellence.
Olivia DeLuca from the Bachelor of Community and Criminal Justice (Honours) program will receive the James W. Church Award. Named in honour of the college’s founding president, the award recognizes a graduating student for achievement in learning, concern for the dignity of the individual and making a personal contribution that benefits society.
DeLuca achieved a high grade-point average, earned multiple academic awards and served as a student representative, advocating for her peers and strengthening connections between students and faculty. She has volunteered with the John Howard Society, the Canadian Mental Health Association and the MS Society of Canada, supporting at-risk youth, fundraising and community awareness initiatives. She has also created inclusive and positive environments for young athletes through coaching.
The Mastercraft Award in Engineering & Technology will be presented to Jun-Yi Lin from the Woodworking Technician program. The award recognizes excellence in program-related technical skills, as demonstrated through an end-of-term showcase judged by industry professionals.
For his winning project, Dialogue in Wood: A Prototype of a Multifunctional Cabinet, Lin created an adaptable furniture system featuring interchangeable book storage, display modules, drawers, a rotating platform and integrated lighting. The project combines craftsmanship and functionality through a modular design that can evolve into a broader family of furniture.
The Mastercraft Award in Applied Computer Science & Information Technology will be presented to Andrei Haboc, Jasmine Kaur, Salman Nouman and Karandeep Sandhu from the Software Engineering Technology program.
For their winning project, the team developed Augi - Your Fixing Companion, an Android-based augmented reality application designed to simplify device repairs. The application allows users to point a mobile camera at a device and receive step-by-step repair instructions overlaid directly onto it, providing an alternative to lost or complicated user manuals.
All ceremonies will be livestreamed on Conestoga’s YouTube channel and recordings will be made available through the college’s website.
