Jane Gravill has been named the recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to the Case Method Award 2026 from The Case Centre.

The honour was announced as part of The Case Centre’s 36th annual awards and competitions, celebrating excellence in case writing and teaching at schools of business, management and government worldwide. The international organization’s Board of Trustees awards Outstanding Contribution to the Case Method based on unique and sustained commitment, furthering and engagement with the case method of learning.

The Board of Trustees praised Gravill’s tireless dedication to the case method, noting the indelible mark she has made on the global business education community. Through her leadership, mentorship and advocacy for open-access cases, Gravill has inspired countless educators and students across the world.

“Receiving the Outstanding Contribution to the Case Method Award is both humbling and deeply meaningful to me. It represents recognition not just of the individual effort, but of a collective commitment to advancing the case method through collaboration, mentorship, peer review, development and open scholarship,” said Gravill. “The award affirms the value of applied case research, open access, collaboration and community-driven initiatives that positively contribute to the broader case research ecosystem and the availability of high-quality, engaging educational resources for all.”

Gravill is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Open Access Teaching Case Journal (OATCJ), a respected and peer-reviewed outlet for high-quality, classroom-tested teaching cases. In 2021, she established the Case Research Committee (CRC) at Conestoga, a faculty-led group promoting case research and case-based teaching, followed by the establishment of the Case Research Development Program, which is now a growing community of faculty members, offering workshops, case roundtables, mentoring, and guidance on navigating peer review and conference presentations. In 2024, the CRC hosted the PRME (Principles of Responsible Management Education) Chapter North America Case Competition, offering students and faculty an opportunity to contribute to case research.

Alongside her leadership, Gravill is also a prolific case writer, researcher and educator.

“Jane’s dedication to advancing the case method has had a profound impact on not only Conestoga’s academic community, but the global business education ecosystem,” said Tanya du Plessis, dean, Schools of Business, Community Services and Hospitality & Culinary Arts. “Her leadership, scholarly contributions and steadfast commitment to open-access case research have elevated the quality of teaching and learning for educators and students.”

The Case Centre is an independent, educational, non-profit, membership-based organization. It is dedicated to advancing the case method worldwide, sharing knowledge, wisdom and experience to inspire and transform business education across the globe.

OATCJ is aligned with the United Nations’ PRME by offering a multi-disciplinary repository of quality, real-world teaching cases for students and instructors that are free and accessible to all. The journal provides a rigorous and developmentally supportive anonymous peer-review process for case authors without the expectation of financial remuneration.
