Conestoga’s Jim Galloway, a professor in the Welding Engineering Technology programs, was honoured with the 2025 CWBA Fellow Award presented to an individual with an exemplary reputation and demonstrated outstanding service in advancing welding sciences.

Jim Galloway, a professor in Conestoga's Welding Engineering Technology programs, was honoured with the 2025 CWBA Fellow Award.
Galloway will be presented with the industry award at a ceremony in Red Deer during the annual gathering of the Canadian Welding Bureau Association in June. The CWB Association is a not-for-profit division of the CWB Group, formed as a national member-driven organization mandated to promoting and supporting the welding and joining industry in Canada.
The association thanked Galloway for his outstanding industry contributions, educating many young welding professionals and support of CWBA events, publications and activities.
Galloway expressed his honour at being the recipient of the Fellow Award, chosen by the award selection committee from those nominated by colleagues.
“I have been a member of the Conestoga community for 45 years as a student, a graduate and industrial volunteer on the Welding Program Advisory Committee, and for the past 25 years as a faculty member, program co-ordinator and researcher,” Galloway said.
“I have had the privilege of standing on the shoulders of the giants in the welding technology field who have gone before me, and I really owe this honour to my professors, industrial mentors, wonderful current and past college colleagues, and the many, many students who have made the journey worthwhile.”
Galloway, who will be retiring this spring, was the 2012 recipient of the Aubrey Hagar Award for Teaching Excellence, Conestoga’s top faculty honour. He also won two national awards for his work in applied research in the welding and additive manufacturing fields.
Galloway was celebrated for his applied research with the association’s 2023 Gold Award recognizing the best research paper presented at the annual CanWeld conference last June.
Galloway and professor Dr. Tam Nguyen were jointly presented in 2022 the H.A. Krentz Research Award from the Canadian Institute for Steel Construction (CISC) with Dr. Scott Walbridge from the University of Waterloo for a research proposal addressing the properties and potential applications of structural steel components printed using wire arc additive manufacturing techniques developed at the college.
Marilyn Powers, dean of the School of Engineering & Technology, commended Galloway for his commitment to students and welding - making a significant impact on both.
“Jim has shown unwavering dedication to enhancing his students’ skills and advancing welding technology throughout his career. This recognition by peers and the welding community highlights the significant impact of his contributions.”
