Conestoga is launching a new bachelor’s degree in Construction Management.

The Bachelor of Applied Technology (Honours) - Construction Management is an innovative four-year degree including three co-op terms that provides graduates with an employer-desired blend of applied specialized skills in high demand in the construction industry.

With a comprehensive and integrated curriculum in sustainable design, planning, construction methods, and managerial, financial and leadership skills, this honours degree enables graduates to effectively initiate, plan, control and commission construction projects. Its project-based learning approach will enable students to apply, integrate and synthesize theoretical knowledge into real-life projects.

“This unique degree aims to give students independent and collaborative opportunities to develop personally and professionally. The program offers many opportunities to develop critical thinking, professional communication and leadership skills that will enable graduates to work successfully in the interdisciplinary, team environments common in the construction industry,” said Diane Burchett, a chair in the School of Engineering & Technology.

Co-op work term opportunities, which are strategically situated in the curriculum to best reinforce classroom learning, allow students to graduate with relevant practical experience to complement their academic studies. They’re also an opportunity for students to decide on their career path by exploring particular interests in the field.

The program satisfies academic requirements to take different professional certification exams including CAPM (Certified Associate Project Manager), PMP (Project Management Professional), PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP), PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP), ASQ-Quality Manager, AACE- 3 Certified Estimating Professional (CEP), Gold Seal certifications, Certified Construction Estimator (CCE) and Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS).

Job Bank Canada reported in December 2024 that job opportunities for construction managers were good in Ontario over the next three years, and the occupation is expected to face a moderate risk of labour shortage up to 2033 at the national level.

Conestoga offers more than 25 bachelor's degrees and was the first college in Ontario to offer fully accredited engineering degrees that meet the education requirements for graduates to become professional engineers. All degree programs include one or more guaranteed internships, many being paid co-op placements. For students who don’t meet the admission requirements for a degree, pathways from certificate and diploma programs may be available.

The Bachelor of Applied Technology (Honours) - Construction Management program will be offered at the Cambridge - Fountain Street campus by the School of Engineering & Technology starting in August. Find out more by emailing BATCM@conestogac.on.ca.
