Conestoga will be hosting the popular Canadian Math Kangaroo Contest in spring 2025.

This is the first year Conestoga will host the competition that aims to promote mathematical thinking and stimulate an interest in math among young students.

“Mathematics is the gate and key to any science. By engaging students as early as in Grade 1 with mathematics competitions such as Kangaroo Math, we help demystify math phobias and allow learners to explore their unique problem-solving abilities,” said Dr. Mona Nouroozifar, dean of undergraduate studies in the School of Business.

Math Kangaroo started in France in 1991 and steadily spread throughout Europe and to other countries including Canada, hosted by more than 50 cities annually. Contest content is covered in the provincial math curriculum, but the problems require creativity, logical thinking or a different perspective.

More than six million students participate in this activity every year.

Nouroozifar is excited for Conestoga to join area universities Laurier, Guelph and Western in hosting the competition on Sunday, March 23, 2025. Conestoga’s inaugural event will be held at the Kitchener - Doon campus.

Students can prepare with past questions and answers posted on the Math Kangaroo website.

Registration is open at mathkangaroo.ca/registration/en. The registration fee is reduced to $20 until four weeks before the contest.
