“This recognition is a significant milestone for our program and, more importantly, for our students who aspire to become internal auditors,” said Amit Mehta, a professor in Conestoga’s Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) - Accounting, Audit and Information Technology program.

“Internal auditing plays a critical role in modern organizations, guiding them toward achieving their objectives, identifying risks, and enhancing efficiency and accountability. Well-trained internal auditors are more valuable than ever, as they serve as trusted advisors, helping organizations maintain transparency and integrity while navigating challenges.”

The Internal Auditing Education Partnership (IAEP) program was developed to respond to the growing interest in internal audit education at post-secondary institutions, while also addressing a general need of practitioners interested in hiring well-rounded students.

Program schools are colleges and universities teaching an internal auditing curriculum within a degree program endorsed by the Institute of Internal Auditors, which supports the profession and prepares internal auditors worldwide with a community, relevant resources and professional development.

The designation will benefit Conestoga’s students, faculty and industry partners.

“This designation offers our students a robust pathway to enter the field with skills and knowledge directly aligned with professional standards. As internal auditors, our graduates will bring a strong sense of responsibility and technical expertise to their roles, positioning them as invaluable assets to any organization,” Mehta said.

Along with gaining practical skills through the program, students will build professional networks that will open doors to internships, certifications and rewarding careers.

“Furthermore, the IAEP designation allows us to contribute meaningfully to our community by preparing professionals who uphold rigorous standards of quality, ethics and accountability in their work. Organizations today face complex risk environments, and our program prepares students to address these with confidence and competence,” Mehta said. “Internal auditors trained in our program will be equipped to support organizations in safeguarding assets, enhancing operational efficiency, and promoting compliance, all of which ultimately benefit society as a whole.”

Conestoga’s Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) - Accounting, Audit and Information Technology is unique degree program delivered at the honours level, providing a comprehensive education in accounting, audit and information technology to produce graduates who possess the skills needed in the global business environment. The program addresses the need for professional accountants and auditors with information technology expertise and combines theory, integrated applied projects, and three paid co-op work terms to gain real-world work experience before graduation.
