Conestoga extends housing guarantee for first-year students until the end of July

Conestoga College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning is pleased to announce it is extending its housing guarantee application deadline for first-year students enrolled at the Brantford and Waterloo campuses. Originally set to close on July 15, the application deadline has now been extended to the end of July, ensuring more students have the opportunity to secure affordable and accessible housing in select communities.

“Transitioning to post-secondary can be a challenging experience for students. Our housing guarantee is designed to provide peace of mind to our first-year students who, in many cases, are moving away from friends and family for the first time,” said Trish Weigel Green, Vice President, Students, at Conestoga. “As we extend the deadline for guaranteed housing for first-year students, we want them to know we have a variety of suites and options available to suit their needs.”

First-year guaranteed housing will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at the following buildings:

Applicants will be assigned a suite in the community they are studying, and accommodation will be based on their preference for suite type and rate.

The first-year housing guarantee is one of many student housing initiatives launched by Conestoga to increase student housing capacity in the communities it serves. Over the last year, the college has also invested in new properties across several communities to provide additional student housing options:

  • 50 University Avenue East, Waterloo
  • 35 Darling Street, Brantford
  • Purchase of 22 Frederick Street, Kitchener (vacant office building that will be converted to full residential student suites)
  • Inn of Waterloo at 475 King Street North, Waterloo
  • 400 Albert Street, Waterloo
  • 419 Hazel Street, Waterloo

"Investing in student housing is crucial, but it's just one piece of a broader support network,” said Weigel Green. “Comprehensive student supports encompass secure and affordable housing, health and wellness, career and employment supports, as well as academic services. This holistic approach ensures students have the resources they need to thrive both academically and personally.”

During the 2024-25 academic year, Conestoga will invest $78 million in student support services. This includes the CARE team, a multi-disciplinary group that assists students with elevated levels of support to help them achieve their academic and personal goals. There are also services to support health and wellness and food security, including a Student Nutritional Access Program delivered by Conestoga Students Inc. that provides access to nutritious food and meals as well as an emergency food fund for students in need. Conestoga has also launched a Food Security Collective that works with local food banks and other community service providers to assist with education, communication and program delivery.
