The Region of Waterloo has announced that UNIFOR Local 4304, representing Grand River Transit (GRT) and MobilityPLUS reservationists, fleet mechanics and service attendants officially went on strike at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, May 1.
There will be no Grand River Transit or MobilityPLUS buses available in the region for the duration of the labour disruption. Transit terminals on Charles Street and Ainslie Street will be closed. ION train service will continue to operate according to schedule.
Classes and activities at Conestoga, including Orientation sessions, will continue as scheduled during the strike.
Students and employees who rely on public transit are advised to make alternative plans for travel.
Visit GRT’s website for information regarding alternative transportation options, including carpooling, using taxi or rideshare services as well as accessing shared e-scooter and e-bike programs.
Transportation alternatives are also available on Conestoga’s Parking website, and include Travelwise portals for both students and employees to arrange carpools. CSI’s shuttle service is available for travel between some campuses.
