Conestoga and community representatives, partners and friends came together on Friday, December 2, to celebrate the next steps towards the realization of the college’s vision for campus development in Milton.
The college recently purchased a building located at 8160 Parkhill Drive in Milton, just north of Highway 401. In January 2024, it will open as Conestoga’s newest post-secondary campus, providing local access to an array of programming in areas such as Justice Services, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, Mobile Solutions, Business Analysis, Quality Assurance, and Applied Manufacturing Management.
The new campus will support up to 2,000 full-time students in programs aligned to local workforce needs. Continuing Education and Corporate Training opportunities will be made available through the facility as well.
“We’re committed to making a difference to social and economic development here in Milton,” said Conestoga President John Tibbits. “We look forward to working with local employers to help them meet their talent needs as we support individuals in their efforts to build their skills and prepare for successful careers.”
This next phase of development provides additional opportunities for local access to career-focused education and training as the college continues to work with its partners towards the realization of the major campus development in the Milton Education Village announced by Ontario Premier Doug Ford in June 2021.
Earlier this fall, Conestoga celebrated the official opening of its Milton IELTS Centre which provides English language testing services for individuals who need to demonstrate language proficiency for education, employment or immigration purposes. The centre, located at 775 Main Street East in Milton, also serves as a site for dual-credit programming for local high school students and soon hopes to offer additional programming to support English language training and other community needs.
“It’s great to see progress being made,” said the Hon. Parm Gill, Minister for Red Tape Reduction and MPP for Milton. “Milton is one of the fastest growing communities with lots of young families. We want to give our young people every opportunity possible to help them succeed.”
“It’s been 20 years since we first started talking about establishing post-secondary education here in our community,” said Mayor Gord Krantz. “A well-educated community is a very prosperous community and I want to thank Conestoga for buying into our vision.”
Mayor Krantz, Minister Gill and President Tibbits all expressed their excitement about the next steps of development and breaking ground on the Milton Education Village project, which will include Conestoga College and Wilfrid Laurier University campuses, a Schlegel Villages long-term care home and a community hospice.
