The following message was sent on July 29 on behalf of Andrew Bates, Manager, Athletics & Recreation, to student-athletes.
Many thanks to all of you who completed the Student-Athlete Vaccine Survey earlier this month. We were very pleased to learn that a large number of our athletes have already been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with many others expected to complete their full vaccination cycle in the near future.
The Ontario College Athletics Association has released their fall schedule for a number of sports, with additional information expected shortly. Modified schedules and other provisions have been made to reduce the risk of virus transmission as Ontario continues to fight against a resurgence of COVID-19.
Today, Conestoga announced that student-athletes participating in varsity sports in Fall 2021 will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. This measure will help keep our athletes and our college community safe as we work to return to sports and increase on-campus activity for the 2021-22 academic year.
If you have not yet received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, please make arrangements to do so as soon as possible. Appointments and walk-in services are readily available at clinics, pharmacies and primary care providers throughout the local community and across the province. Conestoga students and employees aged 18 and over can also book an appointment to receive their first or second vaccine doses on campus at Doon. For more information regarding on-campus vaccination clinics, contact medicalcare@conestogac.on.ca
If you have questions or require additional assistance, please let us know. Those who are unable to be vaccinated for medical reasons or other grounds protected under the Ontario Human Rights Code will be able to submit a request for accommodation.
We look forward to welcoming you back this fall as we work towards a safe return to OCAA competition in 2021-22 while also prioritizing the health and safety of all participants.
