On June 24, Cowessess First Nation announced the discovery of 751 unmarked graves at the site of the former Marieval Indian Residential School in Saskatchewan. According to Chief Cadmus Delorme, the gravesite is locally believed to include the bodies of both children and adults, possibly including people from outside the community who attended church there.
The discovery comes less than one month after the remains of 215 Indigenous children were discovered at a former residential school site in Kamloops, British Columbia.
Flags at all Conestoga campuses will be flown at half-mast beginning today, in honour and recognition of the many lives lost. The flags will remain lowered until the end of June, Indigenous History Month in Canada.
