Three Conestoga students and graduates have been named finalists for the 2021 Emerge Media Awards (EMA). Sponsored by the University of Guelph-Humber, the awards celebrate and showcase the achievements of journalism, photography, videography, audio storytelling, graphic design and public relations students across Canada.
Conestoga finalists include Ivan Angelovski, Karan Bhandari and Magdelena Oskam, who were nominated across three of the 13 award categories.
Angelovski, enrolled in the Journalism program, was selected as a finalist in the Design: Advertisement, Marketing or Promotional Material category for his submission titled Yearbook. Angelovski is also a finalist in the Written Word: Editorial or Column category for a piece titled Jasna's ‘burek’ is a pie to die for.
Public Relations - Integrated Communications graduate Karan Bhandari was nominated in the Public Relations or Marketing Campaign category for a submission on Buzz Tour Co.
Oskam, a Bachelor of Public Relations graduate, was also nominated in the Public Relations category for her submission -- an integrated communications plan for Global Alliance Worldwide Chauffeured Services.
This year, the EMAs received submissions from more than 25 post-secondary institutions across Canada.
Eligible work must have been produced in 2020 by students enrolled in an accredited post-secondary program at the time of production. Winners will be announced on April 14.
In 2019 and 2020, both the first- and second-place winners in the Public Relations category were graduates of Conestoga.
