From now until October 31, the Conestoga community is invited to view displays at the Doon Library and the Cambridge and Waterloo campuses that highlight and share the vision behind some of the major renovation and expansion projects currently underway at the college.
Interior renovations are underway at Conestoga's Marsland Drive building. Occupancy is expected in January 2020.
Among the three projects is the downtown Kitchener campus renovation -- a full-scale construction and renovation project to the existing downtown Market Square building. The two-story 80,000 square foot renovation will open in January 2020 initially delivering business programming for approximately 1,000 students.
The project includes the creation of academic, student and wellness spaces that allow the full college experience in a downtown setting. The campus will feature 15 new academic teaching spaces, natural lighting and design concepts throughout the main level with direct access to the LRT and downtown amenities.
Overall, the inviting colour concepts, furniture and building materials used in this project will provide a one-of-a-kind design experience for students and employees. Trish Weigel Green, associate vice president, Student Affairs, said the main floor design, in particular, will deliver a more integrative student services space.
Other investments in the college environment include a construction and renovation project at the Doon campus in room 1B18, previously known as the Blue Room, that will see a 3,600 square foot expansion of the existing student, cafeteria and event space. This upgrade includes enhanced audio and visual capabilities, energy efficient lighting and controls, collaborative and modern furniture with greater views of the pond, greenery accents, as well as a direct stairway connection to the Library above. The space will be open for use on October 21.
Also underway is an interior renovation to Conestoga’s building on Marsland Drive, near the Waterloo campus, involving three of the four floors -- each approximately 4,000 square feet. Project enhancements include open collaboration spaces with outdoor views throughout, low emission and no-VOC building materials and innovative and modern student and employee furnishings. Occupancy is scheduled for early 2020.
