Conestoga is now accepting applications for the Women in Skilled Trades (WIST) General Carpenter Pre-apprenticeship program that begins this September at the Waterloo campus.
WIST students recently supported the college's Trades and Technology day at the Waterloo campus. The event introduced young girls to careers in the skilled trades.
WIST is a tuition-free program funded by the provincial Ministry of the Status of Women and is designed to support women prepare for employment within the construction sector.
This 34-week program provides students with 26 weeks of in-class practical theory and hands-on experience, as well as an eight-week paid work placement.
WIST helps women gain full-time employment in the trades, but also aims to build self-confidence and provide students with a head-start on achieving apprenticeship certification, if applicable.
Only 25 enrolment spaces are available; all interested candidates are required to attend a program information session.
Sessions take place at the Waterloo campus in room 1G09 on the following dates. Registration is encouraged, but not required: 519-748-5220, ext. 5272.

- April 9: 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

- May 2: 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- May 9: 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- May 16: 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- May 16: 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
