According to new data released on November 1 by Research Infosource Inc., a leading source of research and development intelligence in Canada, Conestoga ranks among Canada’s top 25 research colleges for 2018.
Conestoga recently opened its new applied research facility in the Gaslight District in Galt which increases capacity for Conestoga’s Applied Research and Innovation office, Centre for Smart Manufacturing, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) lab, Cybersecurity Zone and Centre for Entrepreneurship.
Conestoga finished in twenty-third place moving ahead slightly from the 2017 findings where it ranked twenty-fourth with research income totalling $2.8 million for fiscal 2016. In 2017, the college’s research income grew by 10.8 per cent totalling $3.1 million.
Ron Freedman, CEO of Research Infosource Inc., said fiscal 2017 was a positive year for Ontario research colleges, performing better than most in other parts of the country. Conestoga was one of seven Ontario colleges to grow research income by double-digit rates.
During 2017-18, applied research activities at Conestoga continued to support the needs of industry and community partners while providing students with opportunities to build real-world skills and connect with future employers. More than 170 faculty members and approximately 2,100 students were engaged in applied research through capstone, curriculum-based and independent research projects over the past year.
To increase capacity for applied research activities, Conestoga recently opened its new applied research facility in the Gaslight District in Galt. The facility provides increased lab space for Conestoga’s Applied Research and Innovation office, Centre for Smart Manufacturing, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) lab, Cybersecurity Zone and Centre for Entrepreneurship.
Other applied research centres of expertise at Conestoga include the Schlegel Centre for Advancing Seniors Care and the Magna Centre for Supply Chain Excellence.
