First-year Software Engineering Technology student Ilia Zhuravlev finished Communitech’s third annual Code/Design to Win challenge in second place with a perfect score.
The preliminary round of the competition was held last fall and started with more than 900 of the top coders and designers from across Canada. Three Conestoga students moved on to the finals which were held January 19 and 20 in Waterloo.
Computer Programmer/Analyst student Margaret Tavares represented Conestoga in the design category while Zhuravlev and Qiang Zhang, a student in the Computer Applications Development program, represented the college in the coding category. Zhuravlev and Zhang were two of 50 competitors tasked with solving a complex coding challenge within a two-hour time limit. Zhuralev finished under time in second place, and received a $1,000 prize.
