We are now in week three of a province-wide faculty strike. Many students have expressed concerns about how long the strike will last, and how it will affect their studies.
Although we do not know at this time when the strike will end, Conestoga is committed to making sure that students have the opportunity to complete their semester and academic year.
We are now in the process of drafting plans for semester completion that we will review with faculty and communicate with students when the strike is over.
At this time, it is clear that the week of December 18-22, 2017 will be required to make up class time lost during the strike. Classes, test or exams may be held during that period. Deadlines for assignments and coursework may also be scheduled during that week.
Conestoga will make accommodations for students who can provide evidence of travel arrangements booked prior to November 3 that will result in their inability to participate in coursework activities during the week of December 18-22. Specific accommodations will depend on the course and program, and will be arranged once classes resume.
There will be no classes, tests or exams scheduled between Friday, December 22 at 9:00 p.m. and Monday, January 2 at 8:00 a.m.
Although not confirmed at this time, we would suggest that students be prepared to return to class on January 2, 2018.
We recognize that this has been a very difficult time for students and thank you for your continued patience. We will continue to provide updates through the Conestoga website as more information becomes available.
