The Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) named two of Conestoga’s varsity athletes as Players of the Week for the week of October 6, 2014.
In women’s softball, the honour went to Lauren Ruf of Cambridge, a student in the Interior Decorating diploma program. A pitcher on Conestoga’s varsity team, Ruf has an OCAA-leading record of nine wins and zero losses after two recent wins. She struck out six in a 3-0 win over Humber on October 2, then struck out nine in a 4-3 win over Durham on October 5. Ruf holds a 1.45 earned run average, with a total of 58 innings pitched in 10 games. The Condors have already qualified for the provincial finals to be held in Windsor.
In men’s rugby, Practical Nursing student James Innis of Collingwood received the Player of the Week designation after scoring 17 points in Conestoga’s 27-10 victory over Sheridan on October 4. Innis scored three tries, while adding one convert. With an additional win against Mohawk on October 9, the Condors now hold third place in the West division with a record of 3-2-0, with the final regular season game against Georgian scheduled for October 19.
