Two teams of engineering students will participate in this weekend’s Ontario Engineering Competition (OEC) 2012, to be held at the University of Toronto.
The annual competition gathers top engineering students from accredited Ontario engineering schools and attracts leading industry professionals to witness the benefits of innovative and inspirational engineering. OEC winners advance to the Canadian Engineering Competition.
Conestoga participated in the event for the first time in 2011, when a team of students from the school’s Mechanical Systems Engineering degree program made history, capturing first place in the Senior Design division. It was the first time that students from a college-based degree program had participated in the event.
The 2011 team also brought home top honours in the national competition held at McGill University, receiving a second-place finish in the Senior Design category as well as the W. R. Petri Engineering Design Award for innovative design.
Conestoga teams will compete in both the Junior and Senior Design divisions this year. In both divisions, teams are challenged to design, construct, test and present a feasible solution to a previously undisclosed problem, working with limited time and materials.
The theme of this year’s competition is Sustainable Urbanization. More information is available at www.oec2012.ca
