Conestoga's International Business Management degree has become the first institution in Canada to receive accreditation at the applied degree level from the Canadian Institute of Management.
The Canadian Institute of Management has initiated a comprehensive national CIM-Accredited process that will assess entire full-time programs and grant exemption from the academic requirements leading to the Certified in Management (C.I.M.) professional designation. Students graduating from a CIM Accredited program will have met all the requirements for the C.I.M. designation once they have completed two (2) years of managerial work experience and made appropriate application to the Canadian Institute of Management. The two years of managerial work experience must be completed within six years of graduation from a CIM Accredited program and may include experience obtained before, during and after their course of studies; as long as the experience is at the supervisory or management level.
"I am excited that we will be offering the International Business Management Degree graduates an opportunity to obtain their Certified in Management (C.I.M.) professional designation," said School of Business Chair Barbara Kelly. "The approval was obtained after a comprehensive review of the courses in the degree program".
Through the completion of an additional five (5) years of managerial work experience after C.I.M. designation has been obtained, application for the designation Professional Manager (P.Mgr.) can be made. Both of these protected professional designations are very well regarded in the business community with designation holders in every Province across Canada. The C.I.M. designation was first launched in 1973 and P. Mgr. came into being in 1975.
