Matt Beck of Kitchener is the winner of a $1,000 award sponsored by the Air Canada Pilots Association (ACPA) through its Toronto local council.
The award is one of five given to outstanding students in post-secondary aviation programs in Ontario. The awards are in honour of two of the ACPAs founding members, Dave Edward and Tom Jerrard.
Each student winner is recognized as a well-rounded student pilot one dedicated to learning and who displays a positive attitude, a team approach, effective problem-solving abilities and a professional manner.
Becks name was placed in nomination by his student colleagues.
He is in the final year of the two-year Aviation General Arts and Science diploma program at Conestoga. Students divide their time between in-college instruction and practical training at the Waterloo-Wellington Flight Centre.
Program graduates have both a college diploma and a commercial pilots licence, and are ready to seek a career as an entry-level professional pilot.
