There was a buzz of activity, good spirits and celebration at Conestoga College's new Student Life Centre's College Services Open House. On Thursday, January 18, students and employees were handed their maps/ballots from student leaders staffing the new Student Life Centre Information Desk and began their exploration of the Centre and its six College Services. In just moments the Centre was hopping with visitors who stopped by the new Student Life Office and Learning Commons, the Adaptive Technology Lab, Health Services, Counselling Services, and Disability Services.
As participants discovered what each College service offered for students, they also enjoyed free punch, Tim Horton's donated coffee and treats. A highlight was the music that filled the sun-bathed atrium and student lounge. Nicole Sider (keyboard and vocals) and James Hurst (guitar), two students from Conestoga College's Recreation and Leisure program regaled the crowd and set the relaxed and welcoming tone for the event.
The Student Life Centre is an open, bright addition that is there as a helping hand to all students. By offering a greater focus on student support, the College is clearing a path to success by eliminating as many obstacles as possible. It will also act as a gathering place for students and certainly will be a showcase for prospective students as they tour our campus.
At the end of an exceptional afternoon was the draw for 14 prizes donated
by Chartwells, the Bookstore, Alumni, Recreation and Athletics and the
College.
