Enrolment in full-time, post-secondary programs at Conestoga College stands at 6,269 as of September 18, 2006, according to the Office of the Registrar. This marks an increase of 4.87 per cent over the September 2005 figure.
The incoming, first-year group of 3,419 is the largest ever at Conestoga, and represents a substantial increase over the first-year enrolment count for September 2005 - a rise of 12.5 per cent.
"Many factors have contributed to this growth," says College Registrar Janeen Hoover.
"Certainly, Conestoga's reputation for excellence is attractive to applicants. Our top ranking in the province with regard to graduate employment is a very strong selling point. In addition, we've added a number of new programs as well as a new campus location in Waterloo. Everyone here takes a keen interest in making sure the admissions process works well. Faculty, staff and administrators - it's a real team effort. Above all, however, we have maintained the relevance of our programs, both in terms of content and in terms of their close relationship to what is happening in the businesses, industries and organizations that hire our graduates."
By academic division, the total enrolment figures are 1,903 in the School of Business; 1,880 in the School of Health Sciences, Community Services and Biotechnology; 1,596 in the School of Engineering and Information Technology; and 890 in the School of Liberal and Media Studies.
These figures represent only a portion of Conestoga's enrolment. In academic year 2006-2007, Conestoga also expects to serve approximately 3,000 apprenticeship students, 2,000 students in preparatory and full-time certificate skills programs, and up to 43,000 registrants in part-time, continuing education courses and programs, as well as customized training activities for businesses, industries and organizations. In all, Conestoga offers more than 160 programs of instruction.
