Journalism Students Recognized for Achievements

Nine students of the Journalism - Print and Broadcast program of Conestoga College have received achievement awards totaling $2,100 for their outstanding work during the 2002-2003 academic year.

Journalism - Print and Broadcast is a three-year, diploma-level program at the Doon campus in Kitchener. The program incorporates traditional journalistic skills -- writing, editing, photography, research, interviewing and publishing -- with a variety of applications for the electronic media, including broadcasting. Desktop publishing, Web publishing, TV and radio production, and digital media technology are important elements of the program. Students have the opportunity to gain practical experience through SPOKE (the student newspaper), CJIQ-FM (the College radio station) and CXLR (the on-campus television studio), as well as a work term in actual media settings.

Top winner is final-year student Marc Hulet of Stratford, who received three awards totaling $750: the Andy Dugan Memorial Award, the Carl Fletcher Award and the Ross Weichel Award.
