Proper industrial safety saves time, saves money and saves lives.
More than 100 representatives of woodworking industries and associations will gather on Wednesday, May 8 at Conestoga College in Kitchener for the Woodworkers Health and Safety Conference, presented by the Industrial Accident Prevention Association (IAPA) and the IAPA Woodworkers Industry Sector.
Health and safety issues are of critical importance to industry and the economy for several reasons -- improved business efficiency, lowered health care costs, productive labour relations, and avoidance of legal and financial penalties.
The conference takes place from 9 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. at the Woodworking Centre of Ontario, located at Conestogas Doon campus in Kitchener.
Following the days opening remarks, participants are involved in their choice of four workshops -- two in the morning and two in the afternoon. Half of the available sessions are classroom-based, dealing with informational topics; the other half are based in the production facility of the Woodworking Centre and focus on shop-floor safety practices and techniques.
The presenters, who come from the educational, industrial, and health and safety sectors, will address processes, legislative requirements, compliance and due-diligence issues, ergonomics, fire prevention and a host of other topics.
Partners in presentation of the Woodworkers Health and Safety Conference are: the Architectural Woodwork Manufacturers Association of Canada (AWMAC), the Canadian Kitchen Cabinet Association (CKCA), the Ontario Furniture Manufacturers Association (OFMA), the Canadian Wood Pallets and Containers Association (CWPCA), the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CMA) and Conestoga College.
