Dr. Marcus Yung of the Canadian Institute for Safety, Wellness & Performance (CISWP) will lead a discussion on Fatigue in the qorkplace: why is it important to measure and how?
In a competitive economy, a core business priority within many organizations is optimal system performance. Production quality, in addition to innovativeness, is an important driver of overall profitability and organizational growth. Dr. Yung will discuss the importance of worker fatigue, representing a mismatch between the technical system and human operator, resulting in deficits in work performance; as well as the potential link between fatigue and adverse health outcomes such as musculoskeletal disorders (MSD). We will discuss how fatigue can be measured in different types of work, providing examples during physical demanding work in construction and during a light precision task. Dr. Yung will also discuss the role of fatigue risk management to help mitigate the effects of fatigue.
Attendees will learn:
- why fatigue is important to address in the workplace, and its linkages to health and work performance/productivity,
- fatigue is a multidimensional construct and recognize the various types of fatigue addressed in manufacturing and in emergency response,
- how fatigue can be measured during different types of work, and
- the role of fatigue risk management.
The session is part of CISWP's webinar series, aimed at providing an opportunity for stakeholders across Canada and around the world to learn about cutting-edge applied research conducted by CISWP scientists, partnering organizations and research collaborators.
