Student structure vies for People's Choice award at CANstruction event

A Veggie Tales-themed display created by students in Conestoga's Architecture - Construction Engineering Technology (ACET) program has taken top prize for Structural Ingenuity at the 2013 CANstruction competition at Conestoga Mall in Waterloo, and is now in the running for the coveted People's Choice award.

This is the second year that the ACET students’ entry has been awarded the Structural Ingenuity prize. The 2012 structure, Crowning Achievements, received the same honour from event judges.

The annual event brings together teams of engineers, designers, architects and students who compete to design and build intricate structures from thousands of cans of food. When the event is completed, all of the food is given to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region to feed individuals in the community.

Structures will be on display at Conestoga Mall until Sunday, March 17. Mall visitors can vote for their favourite structure. The creation with the most votes will be presented with the People’s Choice award.
