Hundreds of Conestoga students attended the on-campus job fair October 18th. Several local companies were in attendance looking to add to their workforce. Not every student was looking for fulltime work, so were interested in part-time, while others were co-op students hoping to find a company that would be a good fit for a placement.
There was a real buzz of excitement in the air as students were very thankful to have the potential employers come to them with information and opportunity.
“It is definitely a great day” said accounting student Aujla Harpal. “I am a co-op student and we would like to work with one of these companies which would add to my resume. Some students are having great difficulty in setting up work terms because of our schedules so it is nice to have these companies on-campus to talk to.”
Over 50 employers set up their displays and had a chance to talk to and in some cases, hire students on the spot. Mike Corcoran, Investors Group Division Director for the K-W Guelph offices says the day is beneficial on many fronts.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to not only talk to students interested in a career in financial planning, but also to meet faculty and the people from career services” said Corcoran. “It allows us to learn more about the programs and how we might be able to better support them. There is a real sense of passion and enthusiasm in talking with the students as they look forward to entering the workforce.”
Students from first, second, third or fourth year were encouraged to bring their resumes and source possible employment opportunities. Companies from Clarica to ComDev and the Regional Police to the Armed Forces were on hand for the event.
The Job Fair was sponsored by Conestoga College Career Services.
