Innovation in Automotive Training - Career Exploration information session

The Automotive Industries Association of Canada (AIA Canada) is collaborating with Conestoga and Plug N’ Drive to provide individuals interested in a career in automotive with free training through the Innovation in Automotive Training program. 

The work that automotive tradespeople do is being transformed by new and emerging technologies. Participants will learn foundational skills with the Career Exploration training. This 7-week program consists of in-person theoretical and hands-on training led by a Conestoga instructor three days a week. Two start dates will be offered for fall 2024: September 9th and October 28th at the college's Guelph campus.

Training topics will include:

  • Safety - individual and shop safety
  • State-of-the-art tools and use
  • Introduction to automotive software
  • Diagnostic trouble codes
  • Entry-level skills: tire changes, oil changes and introduction to brakes

To be considered for this program, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident or awaiting permanent resident status
  • Unemployed or underemployed
  • Interested in a career in automotive trades
  • Resident of Ontario

Enrollment is limited to 12 spaces per intake. Interested candidates are strongly encouraged to attend an information session.

Additional information sessions will be held in-person on August 14 and August 26.

Note: The Innovation in Automotive Training program is offered in collaboration with Conestoga College, Fanshawe College, Mohawk College, St. Lawrence College and Plug N’ Drive.
