Zoom Meeting
Applications are now being accepted for the full-time, tuition-free Women in Skilled Trades (WIST) General Carpenter Pre-apprenticeship program starting September 2020. This virtual information session will provide an overview of the program and outline the application and acceptance process.
WIST is funded by the provincial Ministry of the Status of Women and designed to support low-income women who are unemployed or underemployed. The goal of the program is to prepare candidates for employment within the construction sector.
This 34-week program prepares students with 26 weeks of online practical theory and hands-on experience (with distancing measures in place). The in-class portion of the program is designed to help women secure and succeed in their paid eight-week work placement.
WIST helps women gain well-paying full-time careers in the trades, and aims to build self-confidence and provide students with a head-start on achieving apprenticeship certification, if applicable.
The average starting annual income for participants who complete the program is more than $30,000.
Eligible candidates must be
- 16 years of age or over,
- a resident of, and able to work in Ontario, and
- proficient in English.
All candidates interested in this program are required to attend a virtual information session before attending a virtual assessment session.
