Trades and Technology Day - Carpentry and Welding

March 2, 2016

Waterloo Campus

"TNT Day" provides female students in grades 7 to 10 with the opportunity to learn and work in a college shop setting.

Students will take part in hands‐on activities related to careers in construction, engineering, architecture, and the industrial and motive power sectors. This experience will provide young women with exposure to the trades, promoting better informed academic pathways and career decisions.

These activities will be run by senior trades and technology students and apprentices under the direction of college faculty and in consultation with local secondary school teachers.

Students will also be introduced to the pathways from secondary school to apprenticeship and related college programs.

Carpentry workshop students will be given a shop orientation along with basic tool safety training. Participants will practice their skills by creating a small carpentry project using tools such as tape measures, skill saws and cordless drills.

Welding workshop students will be given a shop orientation along with basic safety training. Participants will then practice their welding skills to create a small project to take home with them.
