IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is recognized worldwide to assess the language ability of people who aim to study, work, immigrate and integrate in an English-speaking environment. Worldwide, the test is delivered at more than 1,200 sites, with IELTS Conestoga being Canada’s first official IELTS testing centre. This year, IELTS Conestoga celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Conestoga now administers both paper-based and computer-based testing at various Conestoga campus locations including Brantford, Kitchener, Milton and Waterloo, in addition to various locations across Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec.

Taylor Petrie, IELTS Conestoga assistant manager, was among the 200 test centre administrators from around the world who attended the conference and accepted the awards on behalf of the college.

“It was a pleasure to accept the awards on behalf of Conestoga College,” said Petrie. “Not only did I get the opportunity to represent Conestoga while at the conference, we received the highest appreciation award; our test centre was recognized as one of the most collaborative and inspiring test centres in the world. The recognition was greatly appreciated by our team as we had to significantly pivot over the past couple of years because of the pandemic. We faced venue closures, operational challenges, and shifting the business from a paper-based delivery to a computer-based model, but our entire team’s hard work and dedication was recognized.”

IELTS assesses reading, writing, listening and speaking, and is designed to reflect how individuals will use English to study or work. In Canada, the test results are accepted at universities and colleges and by professional associations that have set minimum language requirements.

IELTS Conestoga delivers the IELTS Academic test for those wanting to study at a post-secondary institution or join a professional association where English is a prerequisite, as well as IELTS General which is used for immigration purposes.
