COVID-19 information: Conestoga Residence

This page will be updated to reflect changes in governmental and college responses to COVID-19.

Visit COVID-19 Updates for a snapshot of recent changes across all college resources and information in response to the pandemic.

Updated: July 10, 2020

Conestoga Residence realizes the COVID-19 pandemic may leave students with many questions about residence. To ensure that students in residence have a safe living environment during the fall 2020 semester, our services have made adaptations to operations based on recommendations from Public Health.

Please reference the information and frequently asked questions below. Further questions can be directed to info@conestogaresidence.ca.

Safety measures in place at Conestoga Residence

Housekeeping

Conestoga Residence has increased the cleaning and disinfecting of the building to ensure that we continue to exceed standards set by Public Health, and so students feel comfortable in their new home.

Front desk

As the front desk is a primary hub for students to ask questions, seek support and access resources, Conestoga Residence has erected new plexiglass shields to keep both students and staff safe.

Room style changes

The open concept style will be operating as a single-occupancy room for fall 2020 and winter 2021. Students moving into the two-bedroom-suite style will not be paired up with a roommate as of September 2020; this will remain in place until social distancing guidelines change.

Events and community

Residence Life staff will continue to run events to ensure that students feel supported, engaged and connected. Communities will stay connected virtually as we work within Public Health guidelines to bring unique and innovative initiatives to continue enhancing students’ residence experience.

COVID-19  frequently asked questions:  Conestoga Residence

Can I live in residence this year?

Conestoga Residence will be open to students for fall 2020 and winter 2021. We have been hard at work to make changes to continue providing a safe environment that is conducive to your academic success.

Will I have a roommate?

Students living in the open concept style will not have a roommate for fall 2020 and winter 2021. Changes in open concept style rates are available through the Conestoga Residence web page.

Students moving into the two-bedroom-suite style will not be paired up with a roommate as of September 2020; this will remain in place until social distancing guidelines change.

I no longer plan to live in residence during fall 2020. Will I receive a refund for my residence fees?

Typically, refunds are granted as per the Termination and Cancellation Policy within Conestoga Residence’s Student Resident Agreement. In recognition that these are unprecedented times, we are working with students who are cancelling their residence application to establish appropriate outcomes.

Please contact info@conestogaresidence.ca for more information.

If I want to defer my program to winter 2021, will I be guaranteed a spot in residence?

Unfortunately, it is too early to make guarantees on winter 2021 residence accommodations. The COVID-19 pandemic is constantly evolving and Conestoga Residence continues to make decisions within Public Health guidelines.

I’m in the two-bedroom-suite style. When I’m able to have a roommate, can I pick who?

Students in the two-bedroom-suite style will be emailed when it is deemed reasonable to have roommates again. At this time, they will be able to indicate roommate preferences.

When is fall 2020 move-in day?

Conestoga Residence is developing a staggered move-in procedure to ensure that physical distancing can be maintained during the move-in process.

Move-in day is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, September 6. Please be aware that this date is subject to change based on recommendations from Public Health and the college.

Please contact Conestoga Residence if you require an early move-in date. Additional residence fees may be applicable.

What will Conestoga Residence’s early move-in and orientation look like?

Early move-in has been cancelled to avoid large gatherings. However, in some circumstances, students will still be able to request to move-in early by emailing Conestoga Residence.

While residence orientation may be a little different than what it has traditionally been, the Residence Life team is working hard to plan virtual events and activities that comply with social distancing guidelines to help students develop a sense of community as they live in residence this year.
