A message to the Conestoga community from President John Tibbits - March 23, 2020

Good morning, everyone. Today marks the official relaunch of Conestoga’s Winter 2020 semester in alternative delivery format.

These are truly extraordinary times. The global COVID-19 pandemic, and the tremendous efforts required to arrest its spread, have required governments, businesses, schools and individuals here and around the world to make difficult decisions and develop alternative approaches to the ways we work, live and learn.

At Conestoga, our campuses are strangely quiet as students and staff strive to keep up with studies and work responsibilities from home, sheltering in place as recommended by our Public Health authorities.

The measures we have taken to protect the safety and well-being of our community are unprecedented, as our campuses remain closed to students and visitors, and our employees continue to work remotely. It’s not something I would ever have expected to experience.

Today marks the official relaunch of the semester with classes delivered in alternative and online formats.

The world around us seems very different than it did just a few weeks ago. Many of you may find it difficult to focus on your studies or work responsibilities.

But we cannot lose sight of what we’re here for, and Conestoga remains committed to supporting students in the completion of this semester’s studies. Your courses may look and feel different than originally planned, but we will continue to deliver the quality education that has long set Conestoga apart as a leader.

I’m grateful to Conestoga’s employees who have worked tremendously hard over the last week to transition courses, realign resources and develop new solutions to support student needs. Thanks as well to those working to keep our campuses safe in the midst of this global challenge.

Each day, it seems like the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting our lives in a new way, and I have little doubt that there will continue to be challenges on the road ahead. But we will get through this. And though the world may never be quite the same, we will emerge stronger, sharper and more resourceful.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through these most challenging of times. Conestoga will continue to follow the directives from our Public Health authorities to guide our decision-making. Monitor the COVID-19 Information hub on the college website for the latest information and updates.

Stay safe and healthy, maintain social distancing practices, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you need support.

With best wishes,
John Tibbits, President
