New award recognizes excellence in student leadership

Members of the Conestoga community are invited to submit nominations for a new student award that will recognize a graduating student who exemplifies excellence in leadership.

The President’s Award of Excellence in Student Leadership will be presented to a student who has demonstrated positive leadership through their contributions to the program, the college or the community, and who has demonstrated support to students and the development of future student leaders.

To be eligible, nominees must be full-time students in the final semester of their program at the time of nomination with a minimum program weighted average of 70 per cent and meet program completion requirements for graduation.

Nominations may be submitted by any member of the college community, and will include at least two reference letters providing detailed information regarding the achievements of nominees in the following areas:

  • Positive and intentional leadership through community building and/or other co-curricular activities that recognize and support others’ strengths and skills, and collaboration in teams
  • Dedication to the development of future student leaders
  • Commitment to a sense of community and demonstrated Conestoga pride through the fostering of connections and collaborative practices among peers and/or team members within the college or surrounding community.

The nomination form is available online: submissions must be received by August 30, 2019.

All nominations will be reviewed and evaluated by a selection committee that includes representatives from the college’s Registrarial Services and Student Engagement teams as well as Conestoga Students Inc.

The inaugural award will be presented at Fall 2019 Convocation.
