Free training program for women starts September 2016

Applications are now being accepted for the full-time, tuition-free Women in Skilled Trades (WIST) General Carpenter Pre-apprenticeship program that starts September 12, 2016 at the Waterloo campus.

Funded by the Ontario Women’s Directorate, this 34-week program provides students with 26 weeks of in-class practical theory and hands-on experience. The in-class portion of the program is designed to help women secure and succeed in their paid eight-week work placement.

The WIST program helps women gain well-paying full-time careers in the trades, but also aims to build self-confidence and provide students with a head-start on achieving apprenticeship certification, if applicable.

Previous experience in the trades field is not required; however, applicants should have a passion to excel in the program and the physical competence to succeed.

All interested candidates are required to attend an information session that will provide an overview of the program and outline the application and acceptance process. Only 20 enrolment spaces are available.

The following information sessions will be held at the Waterloo Campus, 108 University Ave. E., in Room 2A03. Registration is not required.
