Conestoga's Fall Convocation recognizes more than 1200 new graduates

More than 1200 graduating students will be recognized at the Fall 2013 convocation ceremony of Conestoga College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning to be held Saturday, November 2 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Doon campus in Kitchener. In conjunction with the ceremony, President John Tibbits will present a number of College-wide honours.

The President’s Scholar Award will be presented to Alyssa Neudoerffer of Cambridge. This award recognizes the graduating student from a four-year degree program who achieved the highest composite academic average for all courses. Neudoerffer entered the Bachelor of Engineering program in Mechanical Systems Engineering in 2009 and in her four years of study achieved an overall academic average of 90.5 per cent.

Alyssa Neudoerffer will also be recognized as a member of the team of students from the Mechanical Systems Engineering program that will receive the Conestoga College Mastercraft Award, which recognizes excellence in the area of program-related technical skills. The group’s project featured the feasibility, design, manufacturing and business plan for a 50-tonne marine hoist. Team members include: Chase Chapman (Bluevale, ON), Stephen Fekete (Kitchener), Andrew Fracz (Kitchener), Nathan Henry (Rockwood), Taran Karwal (Kitchener), Scott Keys (Exeter), Ben Larsen (Kincardine), Sonny Modi (Kitchener), Graham Moore (Burlington), Alyssa Neudoerffer (Cambridge), John Nguyen (Kitchener), Paul Rellinger (Waterloo), Ryan Singh (Waterloo) and Ryan Van Veen (Brussels, ON).

The Governor General’s Medal is awarded to the graduating student who achieves the highest composite academic grade average for all courses in a diploma program. This year’s recipient is Jennifer Brown of Waterloo, who completed Conestoga’s Office Administration - Executive program in spring 2013, graduating with an average of 97.8 per cent.
