Scholarship reception recognizes outstanding students

Thirty-seven outstanding Conestoga students received recognition for their achievements at a special reception held at Conestoga’s Doon campus on Thursday, March 28.

Thanks to the generous support of individual, alumni and industry donors, more than $64,500 in entrance and achievement scholarships was presented to Conestoga students who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership and commitment to their community.

The President's Degree Entrance Scholarships are awarded to those students entering degree programs who achieved the highest average marks upon graduating from secondary school, and who have attained a GPA of at least 3.0 at the end of the first semester. This year's recipients are:

The Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society (Ontario) Scholarship is awarded to the student enrolled in second year of the Bachelor of Applied Technology (Architecture - Project and Facility Management) who has achieved the highest overall average. This year’s recipient is Carol Pham of Kitchener.

The Com Dev International Degree Entrance Scholarships are awarded to the students entering the first year of the Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Systems Engineering) and the Bachelor of Applied Technology (Integrated Telecommunication and Computer Technologies) programs who achieved the highest marks upon graduating from secondary school, and who have attained a GPA of at least 3.0 at the end of the first semester. This year’s recipients are Paul Gill of Walkerton (Bachelor of Engineering - Mechanical Systems Engineering) and Jared Hebert of Lindsay (Bachelor of Applied Technology - Integrated Telecommunication and Computer Technologies).

The Guelph Community Foundation Degree Scholarship is awarded to a student who is a graduate of a Guelph area secondary school, is enrolled in second year of a degree program, and demonstrates academic excellence. This year’s recipient is Alexandria Evans of Guelph (Bachelor of Business Administration - International Business Management).

The Irwin Industrial Mechanical Systems Engineering Award recognizes a student in the Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Systems Engineering) program who demonstrates dedication to their studies and teamwork, leadership, and invaluable technical contribution in the execution of the MSE Year 3 Project. This year’s recipient is Alyssa Neudoerffer of Toronto.

The Jean Levy Memorial Academic Grant is awarded in memory of Jean Levy, Chair of Health Science Programs (Nursing) at Conestoga from 1967-1985. This grant is awarded to a first-year student who has attained a GPA of at least 3.0 and demonstrates a commitment to nursing through volunteerism. This year’s recipient is Lilieth Gray-Jarrett of Kingston, Jamaica.

The Melloul Blamey Construction Entrance Scholarship is awarded to a first-year student from the Region of Waterloo who is enrolled in the Bachelor of Applied Technology (Architecture: Project and Facility Management) program and who achieved the highest average marks upon graduating from secondary school. This year’s recipient is Jordan Dobson of Kitchener.

The MTE Consultants Inc. - Architecture Project Management (Co-op) Degree Program Award is presented to a student in the third or fourth year of the program who has proven to be an outstanding team player by assuming a leadership role amongst his or her peers and seeking innovative ideas and solutions to resolve problems in the school and work environment. This year’s recipient is Jillian Harvey of Ingersoll.

The Walker Wood Foundation Bursary is awarded to two students entering the Bachelor of Science (Nursing) program at Conestoga and who have achieved the highest overall average upon graduating from high school. This year’s recipients are Bianca Colcer of Waterloo and Stacey Kraemer of Mitchell.

The Wescast Industries Inc. Academic Grant for the Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Systems Engineering) program is presented to a second-year student in the program who has demonstrated academic excellence and leadership. This year’s recipient is James Bishop-Gray of Ajax.

The International Facilities Management Association (IFMA) provides scholarships to students in the Bachelor of Applied Technology (Architecture - Project and Facility Management) program based on merit, academic achievement, and involvement in IFMA. As well as financial support, all scholarship recipients receive all-expenses-paid trips to the World Workplace Conference where they meet and network with industry professionals from around the world. This year, six Conestoga students were named as recipients of IFMA awards: Jillian Harvey of Ingersoll, Bradley Ireland of Kitchener, Alita Jones of Toronto, Yumna Nasir of Kitchener, Ryan Van Kooten of Ingersoll and Jessica Weinheimer of Caledon.

The Conestoga Co-op Student of the Year Awards recognize excellence in job and academic performance, as well as contributions to co-operative education and the broader community. Students are nominated by their employer and are evaluated by a selection committee comprised of representatives from employers, Conestoga, and the previous year’s award recipients. This year’s Conestoga Co-op Students of the Year are Alita Jones of Toronto (Bachelor of Applied Technology - Architecture, Project and Facility Management) and Lisa Steele of Guelph (Business Administration - Marketing).

Conestoga provides a comprehensive range of programs that prepare our graduates for success in business, industry and the community including more than 120 full-time diploma programs, 26 apprenticeship programs, 9 four-year bachelor degree programs as well as 2 collaborative degrees, 23 graduate certificate programs and more than 130 part-time programs.
