Conestoga recently held its 44th annual Athletic Banquet in celebration of a successful 2011-2012 varsity season. The Condors won bronze in men’s outdoor soccer, silver in men’s singles badminton and silver in women’s rugby in their first year of competition.

The female athlete of the year is Caitlin Martin, a student in the Environmental Applications post-graduate program.  Martin was a member of the Condor’s rugby team and was third overall in OCAA scoring with six tries in just four games.  Prior to coming to Conestoga, Martin graduated with a Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Waterloo.  She was also named the MVP of the women’s rugby team; was the winner of a scholarship donated by Conestoga’s Alumni Association and was named an OCAA All-Academic player with a GPA of over 3.75.

The male athlete of the year is badminton player Michael Del Fante.  Del Fante was a student in Conestoga’s Advanced Care Paramedic program, having previously graduated from Cambrian College.  Del Fante had a tremendous season losing to only one player all year.  He finished second at the West Regionals and went to Provincials where he won the silver medal.  Del Fante was named the MVP of the badminton team; was the winner of a scholarship donated by Conestoga’s Alumni Association and was also named an OCAA All-Academic player with a GPA of over 3.75.
