Mike Del Fante wins silver

Mike Del Fante won the silver medal at the OCAA Provincial Championships recently.  This is the third provincial medal won by a Condor team or athlete this season.  Conestoga also won silver in women’s rugby and a bronze in men’s soccer.

“Mike has to be the hardest working individual I have ever seen when it comes to Badminton” said Conestoga head badminton coach Tony Purkis. “He gives 110% every practice, which first resulted in a silver medal in men's singles at the 2011 OCAA West Regionals.”

Del Fante only lost one match the entire tournament - in the gold medal game.  Even then the match was extremely close with scores of 16-21, 21-15, 18-21. Mike then repeated his performance with another silver medal at the Provincials, only losing to Humber’s Simon Yip in the gold medal match.

“Hard work, team spirit and pure energy are just some of what Mike had to offer the Conestoga College Varsity Badminton Team” said Purkis. Del Fante is a student in the Advanced Care Paramedic program at Conestoga.  Previously he attended Cambrian College where he obtained a Provincial gold medal in 2009 for Mixed Doubles and a silver medal for men's doubles in 2010.
