Condor Women’s Rugby Gunning for Gold

In their very first season of OCAA rugby, the Conestoga Condor women will be playing for the gold medal this weekend against Humber. The Condors’ record of 3-3 during the regular season in the tough Western Conference earned them a second-place ranking and a spot in the semi-finals.

This past weekend, Conestoga traveled to Kingston to play St. Lawrence College for the right to compete in the championship game. The fast-paced contest was tied at fifteen points at half-time, but the Condors had a tremendous second half and finished the game with a 35-22 victory. Caitlin Martin was again a standout with three tries, giving her nine in just five games. Valerie Shantz added two tries and Nicole Green and Bethany Parker had one each.

The Condors will travel to Humber College on Sunday November 13 to play for the OCAA Gold Medal. The game will begin at 1:00 pm. In league play, Conestoga gave undefeated Humber its toughest match of the regular season, losing 24-10 on October 22. It was the most points Humber gave up in a match all season, and represented the fewest points they scored in a game. For more information and results please go to www.ocaa.com.
