Conestoga Students Featured in Oktoberfest Iron Chef Competition

On Wednesday, October 5, eight of the region’s most respected chefs will team up with future top chefs from Conestoga’s Culinary Arts program to compete in the first annual Oktoberfest Iron Chef competition.

“This is a great opportunity for the community to see our students in action, as they work with top chefs across the region in an event that is sure to be one of the highlights of K-W Oktoberfest, North America's largest Bavarian festival,” said Gary Hallam, chair of Conestoga’s Hospitality program.

In the Iron Chef competition, modeled after the popular Food Network program of the same name, teams will create innovative, delicious dishes featuring Ontario pork as they work to impress a panel of celebrity judges and compete for audience votes. The event, with live music and lots of fantastic food, will be held at Bingeman’s beginning at 7:00 pm.

Participating restaurants include The Bauer Kitchen, Borealis, The Blackshop, Gusto Catering, Hog Tails Bar B Que, Solé Restaurant & Wine Bar, Waterloo Inn and Wildcraft.

Tickets for the event are $65 per person or $800 for a corporate table of ten, with proceeds going to support Conestoga’s Culinary Arts program. Tickets can be purchased online at: http://www.bingemans.com/oktoberfest/.
