Students come out to ‘Explore Conestoga’

Spring is a time for warmer weather, new beginnings, and making a decision on which college to attend in September. With the May 2 deadline for confirming acceptance into college programs rapidly approaching, parents and students are taking a final look at the colleges before making a choice.

‘Explore Conestoga’ events held at Conestoga’s Doon, Stratford, Guelph and Waterloo campuses in the last two weeks attracted more than 2,000 visitors who had the opportunity to attend program information sessions, view student projects, check out student resources and services, talk to faculty, and tour the campuses.

"Seeing the campus in person and speaking with current students makes the decision to come to Conestoga an easy one,” explained Nancy Hauck, Conestoga’s Event and Tour Coordinator. “Guests are always impressed with the facilities, labs, and sense of community on our campuses."

Cliff the Condor, Conestoga’s mascot, was on-site to welcome guests at the first open house event held at the Stratford campus, which offers full- and part-time preparatory programs on a continuous intake throughout the year. Students can attend free academic upgrading courses leading to a high school equivalency certificate (GED), or improve their skills in preparation for post-secondary education.

College preparation courses include English and communications, mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics. There is no tuition charge and no charge for textbooks. Classes are small and teachers provide one-on-one assistance. “All learning plans are tailored to students’ goals, whether they’re looking for entry into a college program or apprenticeship, or building skills for work or life,” said Kim Moore, Manage of Workforce Access Programs and the Conestoga Career Centre at the Stratford campus.

For more information about Stratford’s preparatory programs and how they can help you reach your goals, contact Mary Anne Sullivan at 519-271-5700 x 7227 or upgrading@conestogac.on.ca. Staff at the Conestoga Career Centre can help you explore your options and get you started on the right path to a new career.

If you were unable to attend any of our Explore events, don’t hesitate to sign up for a campus tour offered every Tuesday and Friday at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm at the Doon campus or contact Nancy Hauck, Event and Tour Coordinator 519-748-5220 ext 2383 or nhauck@conestogac.on.ca
